When we purchased the La Guna Shores Lake Home, the home had a 150 square foot opening between the first and second floor living areas.
While the opened ceiling was certainly unique, it sacrificed significant usable space on the second floor and allowed noise to permeate throughout the home. For instance, if anyone was playing pool or air hockey upstairs, it was nearly impossible for someone to be watching TV downstairs. Also, given the 10′ ceilings on the first floor, we felt that closing off the ceiling in the downstairs living room would not have a significant impact to the feel of the space.
In Spring 2022 we embarked on a journey to close off this space. The work included framing, drywall and painting as well as adding new lighting and a fan to the downstairs living room. We replaced the second-floor carpet with a beautiful luxury vinyl plank from Karndean Flooring.
To complete the room, we purchased a sectional sofa from Lovesac, a smart coffee table (with refrigerator drawer) from Sobro, a 75″ LED TV with soundbar, and an arcade machine. The total space creates a 1,000 square foot game and entertainment room with plenty of light and a deck that overlooks Lake Hamilton.
The project was completed in April 2022, just in time for summer guests to enjoy.
We love the new space and think it is one of the many features that make our home an ideal vacation rental for guests visiting Hot Springs National Park and Lake Hamilton.
